Wow, this is totally unexpected.

Who could have ever imagined that the Senate wouldn’t actually put together some sort of foreclosure relief package before their week long July 4th break.  I can imagine the thought process “Should we try to do something for the American people, or should we screw around, then take a vacation?”.
From the Boston Globe: “But negotiations [...]

Consumers know more than economists

“Consumers and economists strongly disagree about which direction the economy is going.
Many economists are looking for at least a modest rebound in the second half of this year. That’s a key part of the reason the Federal Reserve is expected to end its nine-month course of rate cuts and keep rates steady Wednesday.
But 5,000 consumers [...]

Lots of message in a small blurb.

From Business Week “Wachovia officials say the bank has hired Wall Street investment firm Goldman Sachs Group for advice on the bank’s loan portfolio.
Wachovia Corp. spokeswoman Christy Phillips-Brown said Tuesday the firm was hired to analyze the Charlotte-based bank’s loan portfolio and evaluate various alternatives. Phillips-Brown declined to comment further.
Wachovia is in the midst of [...]

Poes Pacman Jones count as a celebrity?

AP has a brief article about a football player, Pacman Jones, heading into foreclosure.  I don’t really follow football, but I suppose some people would consider him a celebrity, so it gets mentioned.

It’s not over yet

From an article in the International Herald Tribune
“Foreclosures helped fuel the sharpest decline in California housing prices in at least 20 years last month, and that’s attracting an influx of first-time buyers who had been priced out of the market or were waiting for prices to bottom out.”
That provides a little positive spin to what [...]

The foreclosure road trip

OK, so it wasn’t really a foreclosure road trip, but a California trip where I paid attention to real estate activity in areas from Southern California to Northern California.  I suppose it can accurately be called an anecdotal foreclosure observation road trip.  California is one of the states with the highest foreclosure rates, but there [...]

Northern California Foreclosures

We arrived in the Bay area and are staying with family in the area.  What I find hugely amusing is the property next door that is a listed bank owned property.  I haven’t looked at any comparable sales or historical sales for the property, I just find it interesting how close foreclosures strike to home.

Southern California Foreclosures

I took a little trip in Southern California to visit some friends and we talked about real estate which is a topic often discussed since the turning of the market.  First friend had three bank owned properties listed in their neighborhood with one more on the way.  That’s out of a total of three listed [...]

Fun and games with statistics

I’ve been seeing quite a few reports about foreclosures with the reports emphasizing thae fact that foreclosure increases are predominately limited to four states.  Arizona, California, Florida and Nevada are the states being pushed as having the “foreclosure problem” while other states problems aren’t being addressed.  O.K., they’re just four states, right?
The U.S. population is [...]

Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea

When I included the “celebrity foreclosure” section, I thought it might have maybe one post a month in that section.  But now, Evander Holyfield’s $10 million dollar home appears to be headed for the auction block.  Story from CBS News This comes just one day after the news of Ed McMahon’s foreclosure, which kind of [...]
