Foreclosure Fat Cats

Found this on Peter Viles Blog
I don’t believe it needs too much commentary other than to note the cat was displaced when the owner’s home was foreclosed.  That part isn’t too funny and I’ll refrain from making any “tastes like chicken” jokes

Extreme Makeover Foreclosure

Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that Milton and Patricia Harper are facing foreclosure.
The Harpers received a four bedroom home along with $250,000 in cash when the television show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition featured their home in 2005.  I can’t feel sorry for them, it takes a special kind of person to take a once in a [...]

California foreclosures up again

Peter Viles of the L.A. Times blogs on Dataquick’s announcement that foreclosures are running 261% ahead of year ago levels.  If we just consider Notices of Default, the first stage in the foreclosure process, the volume is up a mere 124.9% from year-ago levels.
Although Dataquick is stating that we might be nearing a plateau, I [...]

Bizarre twists

Wall Street Journal reports the Boston Fed is going to hold a foreclosure prevention workshop next month at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA.
I can understand local meetings and regional workshops, but “The event is an opportunity for homeowners who are in financial distress, or concerned about foreclosure, to sit down with their lender face-to-face, and [...]

Pets and foreclosure

Fox News has a little blurb about the Upper Midwest and shelters being over-run with abandoned animals.  I, personally, don’t quite understand how someone could leave a pet to make it on their own, or not.
It is a very true phenomenon though, I used to run across it with some regularity when I was looking [...]

Bush and Bernanke on the Economy

George W. Bush believes “I’m not an economist, but I do believe we’re growing,” he said later, adding that the economy is “not growing the way it should.” from WaPo
Yet, Bernanke, who is an economist says “Weak retail sales and a rise in producer prices at their highest annual rate in 27 years provided further [...]

Fannie, Freddie, Foreclosures

Lots of news today about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the possibilities they may be insolvent.  Stocks keep getting hammered and various government agencies keep announcing they aren’t in trouble, they just need a little help to make it through a “rough patch”.  So, maybe it isn’t really news, but spin to keep the [...]

Indymac bites the dust

No need to provide a link to any specific source, it’s been widely reported EVERYWHERE.
At this point, the news really isn’t about what happened with Indymac, it’s who is going to follow in their footsteps.  There’s also been a lot of commentary on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac issues, but I believe Fannie and Freddie [...]

Foreclosure is sometimes inevitable

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson announces:
“Many of today’s unusually high number of foreclosures are not preventable,” he said in prepared remarks to a mortgage-lending forum meeting in Arlington, Va. “There is little public policymakers can, or should, do to compensate for untenable financial decisions.”
from CNN
I applaud the decision to speak clearly about the foreclosure crisis and [...]

Loan approvals

Well, I just got an email from a loan officer regarding what kind of loans can be approved.  She states that if a loan isn’t in Jumbo category, but can go Fannie Mae, there can be a 57% back end ratio.
What that means for non-lender people is that all of your debt payments including cars, [...]
