More legislators in action
“The bill - a response to rising foreclosure rates statewide - sailed through the Assembly last week, but seems to have shallow support among Republican leaders in the Senate, where it may not go to a vote. Frustrated Senate Democrats on Wednesday held a news conference to demand that Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno allow a vote on the measure. They called the freeze a step that could keep thousands of New Yorkers in their homes by allowing them time to talk to housing experts and negotiate with lenders.”

The article also states that New York already has consumer protections in place and takes an average of 445 days to complete a foreclosure. How much time does a homeowner need to get counseling? There’s a very strong temptation for politicians to get involved in hot button issues that provide publicity. Does it really serve the public, or is it just to serve the politician?

Unfortunately, I can understand what these people have done. The banks are so overwhelmed by all that’s happening that it’s nearly impossible to get a response from them. Even the company my lender uses to handle foreclosures has admitted that our particular bank is non-responsive. Although we haven’t abandoned our possessions in our home, we have given away most of it and simply thrown away very valuable items so we can clear out We’re not going to let the bank own anymore of our lives than they already do, so we’re taking our future into our own hands and moving on. We’ve lost everything, and it really does feel as if the bank forced us into foreclosure by their practices. Do we fight to save our house and do battle with an irrational, troubled corporation? Or do we value our family and our health enough to not let them take that away from us as well? Obviously the latter.

Family and health are the most important things in life. Possessions can be regained, wealth can be rebuilt, but neither has any significance if you don’t have the truly important parts of life.
Faceless corporations certainly don’t have individual homeowner’s interests at heart, it’s all numbers to them. I applaud your decision to protect your family and make a clean break.
