It is required that you complete at least six sessions of student teaching. You must arrange, with the assistance and approval of your instructor, your own student teaching site. If you are a first time teacher, and are hesitant about student teaching on your own, we can help you! If you are able to come to San Francisco a few times, we can arrange for you to teach at various sites we work with directly. If you conduct your student teaching in the Bay Area, one of our instructors will attend at least the first class session with you to make certain you are comfortable and that the lesson runs smoothly.
Your lessons will be sent in eight sections. (Please see above). As each section is completed, you are required to return it to your PSL instructor. Your instructor will review and comment on your work, and return it to you along with your next lesson packet. The section assignments consist of writing lesson plans, and objective questions based on the section's assigned reading. Once your PSL instructor receives your completed assignment, it will be reviewed immediately. Your review, and the next new section will be sent to you within 5 business days. You are required to complete the Distance Program within six months of your start date. This provides solid structure for you, and facilitates rapid communication between you and your instructor.
