Yes, the time to pursue a mortgagee approved short sale is a few months before the Sheriff's Sale is scheduled. If it's already been scheduled to occur within the next month, the mortgagee might not consider adjourning the Sheriff's Sale to consider a short sale. But, if your argument in support of a short is sound and compelling, they may, even at this late date, agree to consider it.
