FHA Short Sale

I've posted before about my house in Georgia, that just won't sell. After a few weeks of speaking with my mortgage company, I found out that I could not do a Deed in leiu. I was told that a short sale was a more likely event. I'm only about 1 month in default. I'm still trying to sell the house, but thinking about trying to rent it at the end of the month, when my listing agreement expires.
I'm trying to figure out what will happen to my house in NY. I just got it with a conventional loan back st the end of 2004. Is my house in jeapody? I asked the mortgge company and they say ask Hud. My hud counseler does not know the answer and can't get through to te actual HUD office? Where can I get an answer on this. I don't want to lose my home because of the situation with my GA house. My tenant moved out unexpectedly and left me stranded. Any advise would be appreciated or where can I get an answer.
