Deed in lieu of foreclosure

I want to know about doing a deed in leiu of foreclosure. Can I give my house back and it not bother my credit. I am really behind on my mortgage, and I wanted to give the house back and move with relatives until I get back on my feet. I don't want it to go into foreclosure but it is headed that way.
