redeming a house

My neighbor filed bankrupcy and lost there house. Their house was NOT sold at sheriffs action and the redemption period is over in November. I wish to purchase the house from them and do not want to wait untill the end of the redemption peroid. The problem is that neither he or I can figure out how he can sell it to me thus redeming the house. How do you know how much it would take to redeme it? He is willing to give it to me at the lowest posible price but we can't figure out what that is? Where do we look? Who do we contact?
