Patti: It's very possible that the home was in foreclosure when you rented it. It happens all the time. People who are desperate for money will do anything. You can call the county sheriff's office and speak to the deputy who handles the foreclosure sales. He/she should be able to tell you if the property was sold, when,to whom and for how much. It's all in their computer and it's a matter of public record. My money's on the new investor who called wanting to sell you the house. Sounds like you'll have to deal with him from now on. Let me know if I'm right, and I wouldn't pay July's rent to anyone until they prove that they're the true owner.

: I rented a house in March 2005 and have made all payments and security deposits, including June's payment. I received a phone call from a man claiming he is a private investor and foreclosed on the property and he now owns the house and I had to move out or buy the house from him for $250 more a month than I am already paying. The people I rented the house from wont admit if the house has been repo'd or not, but they are still collecting the rent from me. I live in a small town and are having a hard time getting an appointment with an attorney. I am 74 years old and spent all of my savings to move into this house. This sounds like a scam and it seems like something illegal is going on. Does anyone have any advise?
