I live and texas (fort worth) and my mortgage company is Chase. We fell behind early 2004 and did a workout directly with the mortgage company which stopped the foreclosure. You should find out if your mortgage company has a loss mitigation department and contact them asap, they should be able to help you. You will have to show them proof that you can afford the mortgage and explain why you fell behind. They then will work with you to setup a repayment plan or do a loan modification. For us we did a repayment plan over 18 months. I think most mortgage companies do have loss mitigation department they just dont advertise it.
