RI requires a holdover owner to be served a notice to vacate(7-10 days is normal), then served a Complaint for Eviction. The tenant(holdover owner) then has 20 days to respond. It takes about five additional days after that before an actual eviction could occur.
That is not the complete process, if you are working within a fairly short time-frame, it is probably best to use an attorney to complete the eviction. It's often cheaper and faster than doing it yourself.
