Got Tax lein on home..what does this mean?

I am confused as to what a Tax lein is?
We havent paid our 2002 taxes. We got a letter in the mail saying there is now a tax lein on the house. We dont want to lose the house, but cant pay the whole amount right now. What exactly can we do? Can they kick us out of our house for being a few montrhs late on taxes? Please help and thanks in advance.
