Yes Im in the process of a short sale as well. I do believe its the better route if your able to take it. After 6 weeks on the market I received 3 offers which my bank declined the 1rst, but accepted the 2nd. Were waiting on settlement now. I will pray things work out for you as well. Get a good realtor and start the process now before an auction date is set if you want to avoid foreclosing.
