Apprehensive but considering buying at a sheriff sale

I need some practical advice. I have been watching a house on a court docket and it has been ordered sold by the county sherrif - I live in Lorain County Ohio. The house will go up for sale the day after Xmas. How do I determine how many mortgages are on the house? If I don't see unpaid taxes on the county auditor website can I assume the taxes are paid in full? What other information do I need to research and where to make sure I don't get myself in trouble purchasing the house? I know I can't see the house but can I go and peek in the windows - no one is living there I believe.
