Equitly loan and forclosure

My house was forclosed on back in 2005. It was my understanding that the equity line on the house would be gone as well. The bank with the equityline charged off my acount and now 2 years later a debt collection agency contcted me about paying off the equity line. I told them the account was closed and haven't heard back from them in 2 months. Do I really have to pay the equity line back or am i free and clear of it?
