sheriff sale - stay

My husband and I had planned to participate in a sheriff sale that had been issued a "stay" the night before. The new date for the sale is 60 days from the previous sale date. We need to decide if we should look for something else or just wait to try again.
Who can tell us what the reason for the stay?
