In most states that I know of, a SS# is not required to sign and execute a valid written
agreement. If you are curious about the issue, research the Maine Codes (law) and see if the

Don't make any assumptions. The parties of a contract are bounded to to what is written in the
agreement only. What makes you think you will be penalized? There is only criminal law and
civil law. Criminal law gives you jail time if you break a law established by the city, state,
federal government. The contract that you are signing is a civil contract between two private
parties. If you don't comply with any of the clauses of the contract, then if there is no
penalties in the contract, then don't assume there will be some.

Is there a law that says that the contract need to be signed at a certain date and that a
homeowner needs to leave a property on the 5/13/08? If not, then is a private civil matter
than can be negotiated between the two parties.

I suggest you research the Maine Code and look for the tenant and landlord laws at www.ptla.org/tenants.htm and learn about it so that you can make an informed decision.

The lenders prefer to have this type of private agreements with the occupants and pay them
$500 rather than go through a lengthy and sometimes costly eviction process. An eviction
process can take years if the tenant knows the system and plays with it.
