You and the soon-to-be ex need a plan. I think you should hire an appraiser, or meet with a real estate broker to determine the as-is value of the real estate, and then meet with a bankruptcy attorney.

Once you consider your choices, including potential short and long term credit consequences you'll have a plan, and won't be scared.
