Shop lifting does not steal from you or me direct. But we pay for it every time we go into a store. We are paying for this as well.
I understand that bad things can happen to good people. And despite your sarcastic remarks I do have compassion for families in distress. I deal with them on a personal level literally every day. But I also see the other side of things. And frankly, I have seen many, many consumers taking advantage of the system to get a free ride in this crisis.
Especially with the help of those who try to circumvent the system for profit or just claim that they can and scam the public.
There is no justification of staying rent/payment free in a house for more than the foreclosure process let alone 5-10 years. That is stealing plain and simple in my book. And the persons that assist them to do so are just as guilty.
The good news is that this largely a scam and not a wide spread practice. Most people are a bit more honorable. Oh, they may go 6-12 months without paying while the legal foreclosure process goes on. That's just part of the system. But anyone that continues after that point, especially 1-2+ years after the foreclosure is processed...
That's stealing in my book. And that is not a distressed family.
