Yes, such companies do exist. The biggest one is Titanium Solutions. They are hired by the lender to act as a "middle person" to soften the contact between lender and borrower.
If you were contacted by Titanium it is legit. I have worked with them for 2 years and they are used by a number of major lenders.
Is that who you were contacted by?
