Too many attorneys love the concept of bankruptcy. And is just is not that easy (non legal opinion, of course). I think you are on the right track. Wait and see what is happening while exploring all your options.
Keep in mind that the bank people you are hearing from now are the bill collectors. Not known for compassion or understanding. You need to be talking to the loss mitigation folks or REO department. Remember that there is typically a six month redemption period in Michigan.
