Idaho Attorney General Warns of Foreclosure Schemes
Jill Glancy | 06.22.07
In an effort to help protect future and present homeowners in danger of foreclosure, Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden and Department of Finance Director Gavin Gee are warning consumers about the dangers of fraudulent foreclosure rescue schemes in their state.
According to a press released issued by Wasden, buyers should beware of foreclosure rescue schemes that do the following:
- Ask the homeowner to sign a contract agreeing to turn over ownership to the “foreclosure rescue” operator
- Have contracts that state you may lease your home for a specific amount of time, with the option to buy back
your home by a certain date
- The “foreclosure rescue” operator requires you to pay a considerable fee for assistance in rescuing you from
foreclosure
- At the end of the contract date, the “foreclosure rescue” operator promises to return homeownership back
to you
“I encourage anyone who is facing foreclosure to seek the advice of a qualified professional who does not have a personal interest in your decision,” Gee said. “Licensed debt and credit counselors, legal assistance, or certain government agencies can offer information and options about foreclosure while you are working with our lender.”
