Owe more than home is worth

My home has been listed for a year and is now listed with a "short sale specialist". I talked with my bank 4 months ago and was told I would not qualify for a short sale because I was current on payments. I then stopped making them. I was told by my realtor that I would mess up the process if I started paying again. Unfortunatley I owe more than it is worth,I cannot afford to make payments for a long period of time.The home is listed competitively, but it is not selling. I have now received a default notice and will proceed into forclosure. Not sure what to do...Any suggestions? Thank you!
