There's no way to predict when your friend's lender will initiate foreclosure. If you don't follow lending news(most people don't), there's been a huge meltdown in lenders and they products they offer.
Loan servicers are going to be dealing with an increasing default workload for the foreseeable future.
I pretty much have no idea, and won't take a guess on how long someone can go without making payments in California before the lender files an NOD.
Yes, it's that scary.
