Don't let anyone talk you into doing a bankruptcy just to try and save your home. If you can't catch up the payments and prove that you have a short term plan to get squared away the judge will just dismiss it.
I was in court the other day and saw debtor after debtor have their BK dismissed.
It sounds like you got some bad info from whoever you talked to at your lenders and now you're at the point where you have to walk away.
It's tough but sometimes you just have to move on.
Start getting your credit back in shape as soon as possible as there are other ways to buy a house. It'll be easier if you don't have that BK on your record.
