I've never heard of such proposals from a second lien holder; this doesn't mean that it's a scam or the second lien holder is acting with bad faith. The only way to determine if it is legitimate is by reviewing the paperwork that the lien holder will send you and making sure you are released of any liability. The first lien holder doesn't really care where the money will come from as long as it gets paid.
