Is Short Sell Possible After A Sheriff Sell In Michigan?

I was discharge from bankruptcy in Jan 2008 (my home was included in the bankruptcy). June 17, 2008 my home was sold at a Sheriff Sell in Michigan for almost half the price of the mortgage owed. I have been told that it is not to late for me to do a short sell within the next six months to the mortgage company so that it will not appear on my credit history report as a foreclosure. Is this true?
Is a short sell possible after a sheriff sell in Michigan? How will it show up on my credit report if I am able to do the short sell?
I need a solid answer quick.
