No, the assignment of mortgage doesn't impact your landlord's ownership of the property.
An "assignment of mortgage" from one holder to another is common. Usually, the assignment of mortgage is from one "lender" to another "lender" and doesn't cause any change to the mortgage or mortgage loan's terms.... it just changes who is to receive payment, and where that payment should be sent.
Unless there was a glitch in the recording of the assignment, tyhe assignment should have no bearing on the foreclosure process... and then it would be a procedural matter for the paperpushers to address and correct.
