There is nothing new about mortgage loan modifications, and you need not pay a nickle for anyone to "negotiate" a mortgage modification on your behalf. However, an attorney could review your loan documents to determine if the loan transaction had predatory characteristics... and if it did you would gain leverage when dealing with your lender.

Most owner-occupants at risk of foreclosure would qualify for free, or low cost legal assistance from a local chapter of legal services. Legal Services provides mortgage doc review and can help you seek a loan modification if you are otherwise financially qualified.
