In the case of tax foreclosures, and the acute competition for discounted real estate, I'd have to say getting a home for a couple of hundred bucks, though possible, is indeed rare.
But, since so many mortgage lenders drop the ball, and ignore foreclosure notices involving mortgaged property... it does happen.
