I live in CA and I just married my new wife who bought a home about 3 years ago. Our mortgage is $100K more than what it is worth and the neighborhood has turned into a ghost town of foreclosures and low income renters. We both make plenty of money to cover the mortgage, but want to take advantage of the low prices of some larger nicer houses so that we can start a family. Is a volunatry foreclosure a good option? I am sick of losing in a market that seems to cater to the irresponsible (both buyers who shouldn't have bought a house and the fradulent banks). Any advise?
