Can I file an answer with the court?

Hello everyone. Here's the situation... I live in Michigan. I'm 4 months late on my payments. The bank recently hired a local law firm to start forclosure proceedings on my house. They sent the letter of acceleration last week. It said I had 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt in writing,or the debt would be valid, and they would move forward. My mortgage paperwork has a "power of sale" clause. As I understand it,they basically advertise the in the county paper for four weeks, and then a sheriff's sale happens. My question is...Does the law firm have to file the forclosure in court, and I get the official forclosure paperwork at a later date,so I can file my answer with the court at that time? Or do I have to deal directly with the law firm that gave me 30 days to dispute? I know It's probably a stupid question to ask,but I'm looking for clarity on when to file my answer. Thank you for any help in advance.
