Renter, Owner in default

The owner of our home called yesterday and said he would not agree to another years lease, because he was giving the house back to the lender (how nicley put!). Our lease is up in January, and we are unsure what to do next. The owner said we could stay in the house until the bank knocks on the door. I called the bank and the home is in default. Do we keep paying our rent afte January? And to who? Any advice would be great!
