If the Heloc was for purchase money (80/20, so I assume it is) They cant. If you re-fi, read your terms. Usually in a re-fi you will get a DJ for the amount took. The 15k that you cashed out. The rest is still considered purchase money and in CA they can only take the home. That does not mean they didnt change your terms when you took the re-fi. Read it. You may have signed for full recourse. Good luck!!
