So if you are issued a 1099 for the difference and if it is your primary mortgage, then it is forgiven for tax purposes. Does this also mean that a dificiency cannot be pursued at this point? I am under the understanding that the mortgage company can either issue the 1099 or pursue a dificiency judgement...not both?
